Moto Gp
Moto GP is to motorcycle racing what formula 1 is to car racing. It is the premier league of road bike racing, with some of the world’s top riders on some of the most technologically advanced motorcycles. It is split into three classes based on engine:
- 125 cc — The engines in the 125 cc class are all two stroke. There is also a strict age restriction imposed on the riders, an upper limit of 25 for new riders and wild cards, with a final cut off age of 28 for all riders.
- Moto2 — Newly introduced by Dorna Sports in 2010 as a 600 cc four-stroke class. Prior to the current season, the intermediate bike class was for 250 cc two-stroke engines. Moto2 will allow both engine classes to compete in the 2010 season; but from 2011 onward the rules will be changed so that only the four-stroke Moto2 bike will be allowed.
- MotoGP — The “Top Class” of GP sports bikes features 800 cc four-stroke engines. On December 11 2009, the Grand Prix Commission gave an announcement stating that from the 2012 season the MotoGP class would be returning to the 1000 cc motor limit.
- The highest recorded speed for a MotoGP motorcycle is 349.288 km/h (217.037 mph), set by Dani Pedrosa riding a Repsol Honda RC212V 800cc during Free Practice 1 at the Mugello Circuit in Italy, beating the previous record of 343.7 km/h (213.6 mph) set in 2006 by Makoto Tamada.
Grand prix motorcycles are prototype machines not based on any production motorcycle、 and are not legal for road use.
Superbike racing
Superbike racing is a category of motorcycle road racing that employs modified production motorcycles. To qualify as suitable for Superbike racing, the bikes must in general maintain the same overall appearance and profile as the road bike, and have the same look when seen from the front, rear and sides. In addition, no modification to the frame is allowed. Teams many modify certain elements of the motorbike these include the suspension, swingarm, brakes and the diameter and size of the wheels. Superbike racing motorcycles must have four stroke engines of between 800 cc and 1200 cc for V-Twin engines and between 750 cc and 1000 cc for four cylinder machines.
